Light Grav Tanks[]
Light, fast Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) equipped with a Marshman grav drive. Light tanks sacrifice armour and shields for agility and thrust; they excel in reconnaissance and raiding roles. Often the first tanks of the Legion to encounter and engage the enemy are the light screening units deployed forward of the Legion's main body. Their function is to detect enemy forces and keep them occupied until the main fighting units can catch up and engage. It takes a special mixture of courage, skill and discretion to perform in this role, and forward recon units are often picked from the more experienced Legionnaires of the line Cohorts.
The other forte of light tanks, planetary raids and hit-and-run attacks against enemy supply lines, requires resourcefulness and initiative. This means that light tank Centuries often draw their recruits from the "marginally incorrigible" pilots of other units. This, combined with the adrenaline rush of high-speed maneuvers, gives the crews of light grav units the image of rogues and daredevils. Enforcing discipline is a harder job than in regular units, and MPs often pay special attention to the off-duty activities of the light Cohorts' Legionnaires.
Light Grav Armoured Personnel Carriers[]
By contrast, light APCs are considered the standard transport for infantry squads. Together with medium tanks, they form the main line of battle of a Legion. In keeping with the fluid battlelines of modern grav warfare, the Legionnaires they carry are usually equipped with counter-grav bounce packs to provide increased mobility.
The carriers provide not only transport to and from battles, but also supply power to recharge the cells of the Legionnaires' suits - bounce packs and spike weapons are notoriously power-hungry and must be recharged in half-hour intervals in periods of hard usage.
