Overview[]
The 369th was a unit in the military of the Naram Republic before that realm was seduced into giving up half its worlds to the TOG in the last century. Realizing that the political terrorism that caused the loss of so many worlds could easily happen again, the Grand Jaguars fled to the Commonwealth, hoping that one day they could return to oust the stench of the Terran Overlord Government from their native worlds.
Till then, the Grand Jaguars, so named because they paint the tails of their fighters in yellow with jaguar-like black splotches, serve with the Commonwealth Armed Forces. The 369th is an all-around unit, at home whether based on a world or on a carrier vessel. Their mix of fighter types are used with great skill by the Naram pilots, and they have gained a reputation of being a unit of unusual strengths and abilities.
The Grand Jaguars have made a point of retaining some independence from the Commonwealth and from the Renegade Legions. The unit is staffed entirely of Naram and Naram-Humans who have at least some connection with the Naram Republic (refugees and expatriates). Though they accept the orders of the Commonwealth High Command, they have refused all attempts to move them from the Alaric March, because they want to be as close as possible to the remnants of the Naram Republic. They hold out hopes that the remaining Naram will somehow rise up and shake off the bureaucratic and economical stranglehold of the TOG. Then the Wing will return and lead the military ouster of the TOG infiltrators and spies.
Until then, the Grand Jaguars are sharing duties with the Witches of Defiance in patrolling the interior portion of Shannedam County.

The Grand Jaguars´ slogan, "Tyrants must sleep with one eye open", is a citation from the K'ekasalavo, the Naram Book of Tales. It is taken from the story of the little Providence-sent serpent that killed a supposedly unassailable lord who had completely oppressed and cowed the populace and deemed himself safe from the consequences of his actions.
The moral of the fable is that no amount of power will ensure against the inevitable fall - but compassion and good will might. Had the tyrant cultivated love in his subjects rather than fear and hate, someone would have stepped in to save him from the snake´s bite. But as it was, all his servants and subjects secretly hated him, and no one lifted a hand to save him.
The story of the NahTikal (tyrant-slaying serpent) is an often-cited one, since it fits the current Galactic situation closely. All the remnants of the free people of the Milky Way stand in fear of the seemingly indestructible TOG juggernaut that is inexorably devouring their homes and their freedom. All Naram who are familiar with the K'ekasalavo are watching and biding their time, waiting for the inevitable collapse of the TOG.
